Daredevil Hall is located in the Ironworks Hotel on 86th near the Fashion Mall. In spite of the rather swanky location, the place felt very down to Earth and affordable. There are large garage doors and a south facing patio, it was a little muggy so we sat inside at a table in the bar area.
Don't be scared off by the Mercedes SUVs and Teslas in the parking lot. The vibe is actually pretty similar to other Indy area brewing families like Big Lug, and it felt like more of a neighborhood tasting room with good food. Though, it looked like everyone in there had just come from the golf course.
We started with their hand rolled breadsticks, which are super long! We both posed with our long breadsticks lol. Seriously though it's nice to have something homemade rather than just generic frozen sticks warmed up. I got mine with sambal ranch dipping sauce, which is basically just slightly spicy ranch, but it was super good.
Tavern style is difficult to do well because it’s inherently un-fussy and you don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard. Daredevil Hall pulls it off nicely with superior meats, real cheese, and a just-greasy-enough almost-burnt thin crust that is a hallmark of the genre. The pizza I got is called Our Father’s Pizza with red sauce, Italian sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. Excellent paired with their flagship Lift Off IPA.
Chris got the 3-Way Pepperoni which includes red sauce, pepperoni, jumbo pepperoni, and ground pepperoni. Ground pepperoni is sort of an unusual ingredient but wow the flavor is great, Chris said he’d recommend this to any pepperoni fans out there or if you are looking for something new to try for National Pepperoni Pizza Day (September 20).
The beers were excellent, the cheese and toppings were probably our favorite part. Excellent example of tavern style pizza. It's not personally my favorite style but they do it really well and it's good to have a little variety.
